A very timely release, Jolin Tsai’s latest Butterfly is proving to be one album that ‘flies’ [apology for the cheesy pun tongue]… Below is a brief rundown on the tracks that comprises this album…
01. 花蝴蝶 (Hua Hu Die) Flower Butterfly – this is a likeable enough song. It’s a new Jolin sound, still dance-y, still catchy but there’s also a new added flare to it that’s not heard in Jolin’s earlier releases. I’m not too crazy about the MV though, yes, it’s cute… but I’m afraid Jolin looks painfully skinny and wearing a ‘bunny-corset’…??? And the dance sequence could have been better [didn’t have the same A-game level as Dancing Diva]. Still it’s a nice song. I’ll give it a fair 7 out of 10 stars. smile
02. 愛引力 (Ai Yin Li) Love Attraction – this next track has a very familiar beat but I just can’t put my finger on it. It’s an upbeat song with a cheerful mantra [if you llike!]. tongue
03. 影舞者 (Ying Wu Zhe) The Shadow Dancer – this has a suggestive mysterious sound to it. It has that enigmatic sound of Dancing Diva, yet in a totally different light! And what Jolin song is not catchy, right? In this case, it’s more depicted as ‘captivating’.
04. 妥協 (Tuo Xie) Compromise – this is one of those song / ballad that makes you feel for feelings sake. I’m normally into the upbeat, dance-y, happy tunes but this song sticks to me. I like the emotions that are encompassed in the lyrics, the interpretation – the entire song as a whole.
05. 大丈夫 (Da Zhang Fu Real Man) Real Man – I like this song, it’s a play on what qualities a girl [well’ in this case Jolin Tsai] is looking for in a guy – and it’s done good-humoredly yet at the same time bold in the sense that it’s kind of blatant. I’m not that familiar with Nick, but he has got just the right energy that gives this song a very unique twist. It’s easy to see why this is the song of choice to promote the album.
06. 降落傘 (Jiang Luo San) Parachute – this is a really simple light-hearted song if not for the rather remarkable musical arrangement. I just love the easy tune & melody of this song. As of this writing, I may have not fully grasp the entire feeling of the song, but the composition alone is very likeable.
07. 愈慢愈美麗 (Yu Man Yu Mei Li) The Slower, The More Beautiful – this song starts strong, upbeat rather has an uplifting feel. One thing’s for sure, nothing’s slow about this song…
08. 我的依賴 (Wo De Yi Lai) Accompany With Me – Like 降落傘 [track # 6], this song proves to be a really good composition. But this time it’s more than just an impressive melody as the lyrics sieve through just as nicely as the flow of the entire song. Nothing of the deep-emotional kind. I really like this song.
09. 你快樂我內傷 (Ni Kuai Le Wo Nei Shang) You Hurt My Feelings – Speaking of ‘deep-emotional’, this next track is just that. In fact, its so in that point where I can’t really say I like it. Maybe for those who want to wallow in despair & desolation, this might just be the song for them. But it’s definitely not for me.
10. 熱冬(Re Dong) Hot Winter – the ‘HOT’ that’s being conveyed here is of the sexy kind. No other way of putting it. It’s upbeat and sexy and dance-y, your regulation Jolin tune just the way you want it.
